Joyce was born December 8, 1929 in Washington, DC to Frank and Loy (Cowart) Lindsey. She was raised in Hahira, Georgia. She was a very good shot. She had a variety of pets: two squirrels, a cougar, an owl, a hog, and was once found asleep on the family cow. Wylene graduated from Grady Memorial School of Nursing, Atlanta, in 1959. She married Huey Taylor on December 7, 1962 in Montgomery, Alabama. She worked in Montgomery; Monroe, Louisiana; and Abilene. Joyce enjoyed her grandchildren, bingo, painting, and cooking (especially biscuits). In the past few years her memory was diminished but not her smile. Wylene still remembered that she did not like cutting tobacco or picking cotton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and son Michael O. Young.
She is survived by her daughter, Bernice Hege and husband Duane; her brother, Robert Lindsey and wife Jo; a sister, Jennie Blackmon and husband Paul; Michael's wife, Sue; and grandchildren: Amanda, Brian, David, Merrilee and Jack.
