Dorothy was born on August 22, 1923 the daughter of Hubert Benton and Wilma Stephens Benton. She was the widow of Dick Yates and together they owned and operated Dick’s Furniture Store in Abilene for many years. After retirement, Dorothy enjoyed working as a demonstrator at United Grocery Stores. She was a member of Broadview Baptist Church, the Business Women’s Association of Abilene, and enjoyed attending her weekly Book Club.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Jo Roe of Arlington; one brother, Robert “Bob” Benton of Burleson; her nieces and nephews, Diane Mitchell of Arlington, Roddy Benton of Bullshead City, Arizona, Bob Roe of San Angelo, Dana Shipp of Burleson, and Karon Agee of Arlington; several great nieces and nephews and one great-great nephew
