Mary Jo Montgomery

Mary Jo Montgomery, 52, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at an Abilene medical center.

The daughter of Noreen (O'Malley) and Thomas Francis Kearney, she was born on August 9, 1957, in Evergreen Park, Illinois. Mary Jo married Dale R. Montgomery on April 7, 1984 in Oak Lawn, Illinois. She moved in 1988 from Huntsville, Texas to Abilene, where she was a Long-Term Care Ombudsman working for W.C.T. Area Agency on Aging. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Abilene.

Previously she had worked for eleven years in Child Care Licensing and three years at The Texas Work-Force Center.

Mary Jo was known by all people she encountered for her kind demeanor, smile and sweet personality.

She was predeceased by her father, Thomas Francis Kearney, and sisters, Kathleen and Noreen Kearney.

Mary Jo is survived by her husband, Dale Montgomery, and son, Stephen Montgomery of Abilene; mother, Noreen Kearney of Oak Lawn, IL; brother, Thomas M. Kearney and wife, Cathie, of Oak Lawn, IL; and sisters, Pauline Kearney of Oak Lawn, IL, and Eileen Kearney Wierzgac and husband, Douglas, of Alsip, IL.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 15, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Abilene with The Rev. Msgr. Frederick Nawarskas officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening with a prayer service/rosary to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Cancer Services Network Inc, P O. Box 2026, Abilene, TX 79604, or for brain tumor research to the National Brain Tumor Society, East Coast Office, 124 Watertown Street, Suite 2D, Watertown, MA 02472.
