Hollis Sherrell

Hollis Sherrell, age 76, of Cross Plains, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010 in Abilene after a long struggle with Emphysema.  Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Cross Plains with Pastor Ronnie B. White officiating; burial will follow in the Cross Plains Memorial Cemetery.

He was born on October 16, 1933 in Taylor County to Marvin and Fannie Pearl (Thornton) Sherrell.  He graduated from Wylie High School in 1952 and joined the U.S. Navy.  He married Babs Sherrill in Abilene in 1985.  Hollis was a Charter Member of Wylie Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Babs Sherrell of Cross Plains; daughter, Debbie Lynn Antilley and husband Len of Abilene; son David Layne of San Antonio; sister, Pat Harris and husband Sam of Abilene; Brother-in-law, Brady and Gwen Jones of Amarillo; grandchildren, Emily Lynn Antilley; Rusty Antilley and wife Jill; great-grandchildren, Reese, Rawley, Ryan and Ryder; step-children, Deborah Marsh, Bill Tarpley, Pat Tarpley as well as step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
