Howard Weldon Johnson, 77, of Potosi, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, March 27, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Bobby Isbell and Kenneth Longley will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oplin Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
Howard was born in Oplin, Texas on December 13, 1932 to Lewis
Johnson and Ruby (Preston) Johnson. He attended school in Oplin and
graduated from high school in Novice. Howard married Frances Geraldine
Whitley on June 21, 1952 in Tye, Texas. He lived in Oplin most of his
life, where he was a farmer and rancher, before moving to Potosi in
2004. He was a member of the Oplin Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Howard is survived by his
wife, Jerry Whitley Johnson, of Potosi; one brother, Robert Johnson and
his wife Shirley, of Childress; three children: James and Nelda Johnson
of Oplin, Pam and Kenneth Freeman of Potosi, Brenda Shelby of
Greenville; six grandchildren: Geary and Jennifer Riley of Spur, H.T.
and Michele Johnson of Oplin, Howie Riley of Eula, Justin and Brandi
Riley of Cisco, Autdom Shelby of Dallas, and Bennilee Shelby of
Greenville; three step-grandchildren: Wayne and Paula Vinson of
Oklahoma, Eddie and Ami Vinson of New Mexico, Shane and Amy Vinson of
Oplin; six great-grandchildren: Deven Riley, Blake and Luke Riley,
Brooklyn and Payton Riley, and Hagen Johnson; six
step-great-grandchildren: Brooke, Blake and Bailey Vinson, Isabelle and
Sophia Vinson, and Brylee Vinson; as well as one nephew and two nieces
of Childress.
Geary Riley, H.T. Johnson, Howie Riley, Justin Riley, Wayne Vinson,
Eddie Vinson, Shane Vinson and Deven Riley will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bennilee Shelby, Blake and Luke Riley,
Blake Vinson, Hagen Johnson and Payton Riley.
