Rockford - The race to serve the huge 17th Congressional District is shaping up to be a hotly contested one.

Incumbent Rep. Bobby Schilling (R) and his challenger Cheri Bustos (D) were both in Rockford touting their plans if they win. "When I get re-elected" says a confident Schilling, "We're going to continue to focus in on a lot of the over-regulation that's crushing businesses and incentivizes companies to leave the U.S.A."

But, Bustos countered saying, "His votes have reflected the protection of millionaires and big oil. I'm working very hard to make sure I understand the needs of middle-class families, people who are out of work, how to get them back to work."

The redrawn 17th District covers Rockford and goes as far south as Pekin.
