Updated: May 5, 2010
Karen Ann Siewert Yancy has finally won her battle with cancer and has gone to live with her Heavenly Father. She is now at peace and will be waiting for all of her dear family and friends with Jesus when he calls for them.

Born on December 8, 1950, to Clarence Lee and Elizabeth 'Ann' Siewert, Karen had one son, Dustin Ryan Yancy, whom she loved dearly.

Karen lived in Abilene most of her life. She lived in Las Vegas, Nevada 1998 to 2007 when she moved back to Abilene. She worked for a physician there as an office manager. She worked in the medical field most of her life.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for most of her life. She loved her church and her church family. Pastor K was there with her from the very beginning. "Thank you, Pastor K and Ellen and congregation, for all of your spiritual support."

Karen was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, Chapter Xi Pi Alpha. Her sorority sisters meant the world to her and were always there for her needs. She also had a host of friends who took her under their wings and made sure she had good times along with the bad. They made her laugh. She fought her battles for all of these people and for her loving family with help from above. God was always her strength, but they were her advocates that helped her fight. She did not want to let anyone down. She just wanted to stay as long as she could.

Karen is survived by her parents, Clarence and Ann Siewert of Abilene; son, Dustin Yancy and his life partner, Courtney, of Abilene and her daughter, Kady; sister-in-law Melinda Hoover and husband, Randy, of Terre Haute, Indiana; and a number of cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Louis and Clara Siewert and Skinny and Eufa Regeon.

Thank you to Dr. Kalla and the staff of Abilene Cancer Center.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 1, at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Clyde Kieschnick officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Memorials may be made to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory, Abilene, TX 79601, or Capital Campaign at Zion Lutheran Church and All God's Children at Zion Lutheran Church, both at 2801 Antilley Rd., Abilene, TX 79606.
