Since almost the beginning of home electrical service, meters have measured how much electricity is being used, and meter readers were needed to check those on a regular basis.

Before long, meter readers will be a thing of the past.

Next time you see your meter reader it might be your last. Smart meters will soon be taking their place.

Smart meters are a digital meter reader that track your energy usage and where you use it.

This will allow you the user to see where and when you might be able to cut back on your electricity usage.

Not only does cutting baack on your energy use help your wallet, it also helps the environment.

The smart meters will make their way to some parts of the Big Country within a year.
