In the race for the 16th Congressional district seat, Republican Adam Kinzinger is facing Democrat Wanda Rohl.
Our question: Do we need stricter gun control laws in the U.S to prevent situations like that in Aurora, Colorado?
Wanda Rohl - Responsible gun ownership is different than gun control. I'm a gun owner. I live on a farm. My husband is a gun owner. We were raised around them, my children were raised around them. Most people who are responsible gun owners don't have a problem with having a FOID card or having a three day waiting period. The responsibility of you can't own a gun if you've been found guilty of a violent crime or been found incompetent by a judge, I don't have any kind of problem with that. If we think about it, I think it's time we've had an adult conversation about gun responsibility and making it a little tougher to by the ammunition and the automatic weapons. It's not about taking anyone's gun away, it's about being responsible.
Adam Kinzinger - I think we need to enforce laws in the books. There's plenty of laws controlling who can and can't have weapons and those should be enforced. But the reality of it is that the second amendment gives us the right to keep and bare arms. It's not necessarily the right to hunt, it's the right to keep and bare arms. The Supreme Court has said that and they've agreed to it. So if people really want to take the gun out of people's hands, they have a way to do that, they can repeal the second amendment. I don't obviously support that, but that's how you go about it. You don't just pass laws that contradict with the second amendment.
