Abilene mayor Norm Archibald is speaking out against the sale of water to Tenaska.

The water would be used at the company's coal fired power plant which will be built near Sweetwater.

The Tenaska Trailblazer Energy Center offered around $400,000 to the city for water from Kirby Lake.

Nearly 2 million gallons of water a day would be needed.

The water that would be used is called treated effluent water. It's sewer water that has been retreated and is almost clean enough to drink.

That water is used to water campuses, golf customers, and for other customers needs.

While there is enough water to give to Tenaska now, there's no way to tell in the future just how much water will be available to give and still sustain the level needed for the residents of Abilene.

On July 29th, there will be a public hearing where the public is welcome to share their opinion with the Abilene City Council
