As we count down to election day in November, we're looking at where local candidates stand on the issues. In the race for the 13th Congressional District seat Democrat David Gill faces Republican Rodney Davis. We asked both candidates if we need stricter gun control laws in the U.S. to prevent situations like that in Aurora, Colorado?

David Gill:  "No, i think there's not really a role for increased federal legislation with regards to guns. I'm an avid second ammendment supporter and I see victims of assault in the emergency department, I'm an emergency room doctor, I'm not a politician, I've never worked for politicians, and in my line of work, I see people who have been assaulted and harmed and I think that they should have the opportunity to defend themselves,"

Rodney Davis: "You know, no matter how many laws we put on the books, no tragedy is going to be stopped by gun control laws, unfortunately. I think our focus needs to be on what turns the criminals into criminals and using those weapons to hurt people. Now, and I think more focus needs to be put on the killers like in the Colorado shooting to find out why they get to that point, but no new law is going to be a save, is going to save us from those tragedies, unfortunately."
