As next month's election draws closer, we're finding out where the local candidates stand on the issues. In the 13th District Congressional Race, Republican Rodney Davis faces Democrat David Gill. Tonight's topic is social security...we asked candidates how they will work for the people of Illinois to assure them them that social security will be there when they retire.
Rodney Davis:
"If we don't begin to
change the way social security has been operated, where funds have been
raided by Congress' of the past, and begin to ensure that we have a
social securit trust fund that will continue to fund retirees and
beneficiaries, we're not going to have social security. So tough
decisions need to be made in the future to ensure the social security
system remains solvent after it's projected insolvency date of 2032."
David Gill:
"I'm
very committed to preserving social security and keeping it strong.I it
starts with having a real committment to it and not being a candidate
who would actually like to see social security privatized or turned into
a voucher program. My opponent takes money from Koch Brother's
Industries. The Koch brothers are people who think that social security
should be turned into a privatized voucher program and I think that's
just wrong. I don't think that we should put seniors retirement income
at risk. They've worked hard for that money, it's their money, and I
want to go to Washington to protect it."
