A West Texas man appeared in court today after being arrested when DPS discovered marijuana in his car.

However, Chris Diaz's supporters from the group "I Am Sovereign" claim those drugs were prescribed by a doctor for clinical asthma.

Diaz was arrested by Brown County law enforcement on June 27 of this year.  After a state trooper pulled him over for a regular traffic stop and discovered he had 14 grams of THC, also known as hash, in his possession.

Today in court, Diaz said very little. What he did tell the judge was that he no longer wished to be represented by his attorney. After questioning both Diaz and his attorney the judge denied this request.   The state is charging Diaz with a first degree felony for possession of marijuana.

His supporters with the "I Am Sovereign" group continue to voice their concern for Diaz's health while he remains behind bars.

The Brown County Sheriff's Office says Diaz has seen a jail physician and is in good health.

Diaz was taken back to the Brown County jail this afternoon. His bond remains set at $35,000 dollars.
