Goodwill Making Efforts to Go Green

By: Nance Burgin and Marchita Johnson

When you think of Goodwill, often what comes to mind is a store where everything from clothing to dishes to lamps may be purchased at a discounted price because they've been used. Well, you may be happy to find out that even those items which cannot be resold have a chance to be recycled!

"From time to time, we get things that cannot be resold in our stores and rather than trying to trash those items or send them to the landfill, we recycle as much as possible."

"We may sell it to a retailer who has a rag business, or they may send it to a Third World country where they take that bail and they clothe an entire town out of a bail."

"We have artist that will come and buy broken glass from us and crete things with that. We have other people who will buy electronics and maybe revamp old electronics. So, as much as possible, we try to keep things out of the landfill."

While Goodwill is a perfect place to recycle the items you no longer need, please keep in mind that it is not a place to dump your trash.
