83% of adults and 90% of children in the U.S. have seen a doctor this year, but just when everyone is feeling better, the bill arrives.

This time, don't just throw it into the pile, it could pay to check out exactly what you're being charged for!

Your bill may look like a normal bill, but look a little closer. Do you see multiple charges for the same procedure? How about the "miscellaneous fees"? Emergency fees? What do they all mean!?

Medical billing advocates say all three are red flags to look our for on your next bill.

Hospitals are estimated to overcharge patients ten billion dollars a year!

To protect yourself, keep the details of all procedures and tests you get. Miscellaneous charges may be hidden, so ask for an itemized copy.

Also, watch out for emergency fees, sometimes hospitals bill you for the full use of a department, even if you only use the equipment not the personnel.

If sorting through and making sense of your bill is too difficult, medical billing advocates are there to help take charge of the charges.

Advocates usually charge a percentage of the total amount of money saved. You can easily "Google" and find one on the internet.
