Akin Concedes to McCaskill in Mo. Senate Race

By: Missouri News Horizon
Updated: November 7, 2012
(ST. LOUIS, Mo.) An Akin campaign staff member confirms to Missouri News Horizon that Congressman Todd Akin has called Senator Claire McCaskill around 9:30 p.m. and conceded the race.

With 1107 of 3387 precincts reported, McCaskill was ahead by 52%.

During the campaign season, Akin had been criticized for his words of "legitimate rape" during a television interview in early August.

Despite protest and heckling for Akin to drop out of the race, he vowed to stay in it until the end.

In a statewide poll leading up to Tuesday, McCaskill had an advantage over Akin by 15 points.
