A potentially life-saving device is now at one local hospital.  Having this resource in Abilene should keep people from traveling hundreds of miles for treatment.

In July, Abilene Regional Medical Center got a device called the Impella catheter. The deivce helps a patient's heart to rest either during or immeidately following a heart attack.  It basically provides the body with oxygenated blood, putting the heart at ease.

The director of Abilene Regional's Cardiac Cath Lab says the Impella catheter has great potential to save lives in Abilene.  The medical center says this device is the first one in Abilene and should keep people from traveling to Fort Worth or Lubbock for the same treatment.
