The race for the 27th Congressional district here in New York was called early Wednesday morning.
Republican Chris Collins has narrowly defeated incumbent Kathy Hochul.
Collins
is the former Erie County Executive. He won Erie County and that set
off an early morning celebration just after 12:30.
Collins
says, "I'm humbled by this win. I can promise all the constituents in
the 27th district we're gonna work for more jobs in America, we're gonna
work for less spending in Washington, and we're gonna work to make sure
we're energy independent."
Around 2 o'clock Wednesday morning Hochul released a statement which read,
"Early
this morning I called Chris Collins and congratulated him on being
elected to Congress. I encourage him to work across the aisle and
offered to assist him in any way I can. I also volunteered to help him
make a smooth transition in January to ensure our constituents are well
served. Congress can do better, and the people of this country deserve
better than what Washington has given them."
