Nikki Haley survived a down-right dirty campaign and on Tuesday became South Carolina's first Indian-American and first female governor.
South Carolina is one of three states that made history this election year, electing women to the state house for the first time, and all three are republicans.
"My goal was always to get you to care, if I could get the people to care we could make history by changing the way government runs" said Governor-elect Haley.
Susana Martinez won in New Mexico, she is also the first female Hispanic governor in the country.
In Oklahoma, Republican Congresswoman Mary Fallin won by appealing to voters worried about the economy.
The female Governors club is still small, after Tuesday's election there are only six in the nation; however, it's the most ever at one time.
