With Thanksgiving coming next week, it's time for many to begin bringing out the holiday decorations!

Now, with those decorations often comes increased electric bills, but the good news is that there are many options when it comes to saving energy this holiday season.

"Everybody puts up lights...I would recommend LED lights because they save more electricity" said Quince Langlitz with Lowe's.

Lights are definitely one of the most popular holiday decorations and one of the most important things you can so to save some electricity is use a timer.

"Another thing I would really suggest is always set timers to turn off about 9 or 10 o'clock" said Langlitz.

There are a few other things you can do to make sure your Christmas cheer doesn't break the bank.

Check cords frequently....a short could drive up energy usage, not to mention, it could be dangerous.

Also, check light strands for blown out bulbs and make sure not to plug too many power cords into the same socket.
