When we think of giving this holiday season we usually think of giving to kids, but it's not only kids who are in need but also senior citizens.
The holidays are here and Santa is coming not only for good boys and girls but also for senior citizens.
“There's always a lot of programs for children so this is a special outreach to find those needy elderly who also need to be remembered at Christmas time,” said owner of Home Instead Senior Care, Derral Reed.
He's talking about The Be A Santa To A Senior project that Wal-Mart and several nonprofit organizations are taking part in.
“A lot of our seniors depending on social security won't be getting as much this year so we are really anticipating a bigger need this year,” he said.
A need to remember our seniors during the holidays.
“The smile on their face is really the fun part of the program. A lot of times it's not the gift as much that matters but having somebody come in and bring a smile and some cheer,” said Reed.
He said a lot of seniors either don't have family here or are just always alone and may need a little something extra to brighten the holidays.
“Whether it be a bottle of perfume or an electric razor it's really just having a smile and someone show up spreading that Christmas cheer,” Reed added.
Spreading the Christmas cheer making sure everybody, especially our seniors have a happy holiday.
The north side Wal-Mart will be accepting donations until December 13.
