She joins a group of seniors every Tuesday for gospel singing at the Rose Park Senior Center. She said the group has a lot of fun and doesn't hold back
“We let it all out,” she said.
Let all out they do. Director of the group, Delores Westra, said it's a great way for seniors to get together and do what they love.
“We have lots of fun singing. You can be feeling kind of down and come here and sing songs and get a pick me up,” said Westra.
She said you don't have to be a pro to join the group. They have singers of all levels.
“Some people say well i can't sing. It doesn't matter how you sound its the joyful noise to our Lord's ear,” she said.
Each person gets to chose a song and lead the group in praise. Senior Bruce Grimes said it's a good release to make you feel better. He said music and singing is a big part of his life.
“You see other people walking around with ear buds in. The songs I have in my head are sufficient for me,” he said.
He said singing is good for the soul
“One thing we know we are gonna do in heaven is sing so this is a little bit of heaven,” said Grimes.
Lavy agrees and said she will continue to sing her heart out.
The seniors meet every Tuesday at 10:00a.m. in the Rose Park Senior Center
