Many unanswered questions remain when it comes to what exactly happened between Elizabeth Proctor, a former Cooper High School teacher, and a male student.

"I didn't think something like that could happen here in Abilene," said Gloria Ybarra, mother of a Cooper High School student.

Ybarra has a daughter at Cooper High. She said she was glad to hear that Proctor turned herself into police Monday.

"Get her out of the school system. I have an 18-year-old and it would be scary to think that it happened here at Cooper," Ybarra said.

Last month, Proctor was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student, beginning in 2009. A week and a half ago, she handed in her resignation to Abilene ISD superintendent Dr. Heath Burns.

"This school district will be utterly intolerant of teachers that develop inappropriate relationships with students," Burns said.

Burns also said that the school district has no reason to find Proctor guilty, but they are well aware of the allegations. If information that points to Proctor being guilty surfaces, Abilene ISD will conduct an investigation.

"I think in our country the accused have rights and I am a believer in those rights.  However,  even more important to me is that AISD works hard to keep our students safe and secure," Burns said.
