"Go Red for Women" Luncheon Set for Feb. 16

By: Laura Kellerman
Updated: February 11, 2011
Women in red will flock to the Abilene Civic Center next Wednesday for the annual "Go Red for Women" American Heart Association fundraiser.

The Feb. 16 event, also sponsored by Abilene Regional Medical Center, includes free health screenings for women.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States.  A woman who suffers from a heart rhythm disorder called SVT encouraged participants to "know their numbers," including cholesterol, blood pressure, weight and measurements in order to be aware of their risk of heart disease.

The luncheon will feature a silent auction of donated purses filled with items that reflect the personalities of their donors.

The $30 tickets are available through Feb. 12.  For tickets please call the American Heart Association at 1-888-433-7220 x2643.
