Facebook Prompts Arrest in Giant Gator Death

A nearly 12-foot alligator was discovered shot and killed in a Bastrop County creek last week.

It is illegal to shoot alligators in Bastrop and Travis Counties, Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Fred Ensinger said.

The suspect's Facebook postings about shooting the big gator helped authorities track him down.  The unnamed suspect faces a Class C misdemeanor charge.

Ensinger said the alligator's skull may be donated to a museum once the body naturally decomposes.
