Technology used to train astronauts before a shuttle launch is being used in Abilene.

New NASA based technology can be found right here in Abilene

This piece of technology helps our ladies and gentlemen, our residents take off the weight that they have so they can have more exercise," said Eric Gillis with Wysteria Place.

Gillis says the machine reduces body weight by literally taking gravity away.

"So if we have a patient that comes in with a hip fracture or knee replacement and the doctor says that she can only walk at 50% or her body weight we can control this treadmill," said Gillis

Gillis says it dramatically speeds up recovery time from an injury.

"In some cases they've done research on it that it cuts the rehabilitation time half".

He says he has personally seen an impact at Wysteria Place

"Recently we had one of our residents that hadn't walked since last august and she was able to get on the alter g and walk for five minutes".

A success Gillis hopes to see more of

The people at Wysteria Place say they hope to make the machine available to the community including athletes who may have suffered an injury.
