An 87 year old Abilene pastor was the recent victim of a scam.

According to Abilene police he was targeted by scammers in an elaborate scheme to get his money.

According to the pastor, the scammers got his money and they think they pulled a fast one on him.

"They slick, they slick!" said Pastor Aaron Mackey.

He said he got a call from a man who described himself as a pastor.

"His daughter was moving here to Abilene," Mackey said.

She was en-route with her three kids, that included an infant.

The man who called the reverend said he wanted the reverend to check in on his daughter from time to time when she got to Abilene.

That's when he got a second call

"Now she done broke down," explained Mackey.

This time from the women who claimed to be the daughter of the man the reverend got the first call from.

"My hart went out to her and her three kids stranded".

She said she had broke down in a small town on her way to Abilene and she needed money to fix her car. The caller stated she would pay him back when she got to Abilene.

Mackey wired the woman $900 for repairs.

He then got a third and fourth call and over $1400 later he found out:

"It was a sham all along, I done caught on".

He went to police who immediately new it was a scam,

"The big thing here  is, anybody who is asking you to wire transfer funds, i can almost guaranty that's fraud," said APD Detective John Clark.

The pastor says they got his money, and the scammers think they pulled a fast one on him.

"He thinks he got me, no, he messed himself up, that's my feeling, I'm just as happy now as can be," said Pastor Mackey.
