Your Key to Avoid Stroke? Low Pressure.

By: American Heart Association/Megan Dobbs
Updated: May 6, 2011
Monitor your blood pressure and prevent stroke. The American Heart Association encourages you to do just that this month, Stroke Awareness Month.

Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene reports an increase in stroke patients over the past three months.   Doctors there believe the rise in stroke patients is due to better medical treatment and more awareness.

The American Heart Association says maintaining low blood pressure is one of the best ways to lower your risk for stroke. AHA has a guide to lowering blood pressure on its website.
