Friday Afternoon Update:
Gov. Perry has vetoed a bill outlawing texting while driving.

He calls it a "government effort to micromanage the behavior of adults."

It was one of 23 bills Perry vetoed Friday, in addition to a handful of line item vetoes in the state budget.

Original Story:

A bill awaiting Governor Rick Perry's signature would make it a misdemeanor offense to text while driving.

The measure passed Sunday night would make the offence punishable by $200 or 30 days of jail time.

The law does not make it illegal to enter or search for a phone number on a phone while driving before making a call.

Perry has not announced whether he will sign the bill.
