The Wheelchair choir is made up of over 30 Wisteria Place residents who prove patriotism lasts through any age.

The choir held their yearly Independence Day celebration on Saturday entitled, "The Grand Old Flag" where they sang familiar patriotic favorites.

Wisteria Place Marketing Director David Hare says the show brings out a big crowd. Seeing support for the performers is heartwarming.

"It was amazing to see the family members of our ladies and gentlemen," Hare said.

Director Dr. Darrel Watkins says he loves seeing members come out of their shell.

"It is such a sense of fulfillment to see people blossom," Watkins said.

The choir gives residents who thought their performing days were long over a chance to return to the stage. Edna Walsh, an 87-year-old member is still taking voice lessons.

Although "Wheelchair" is part of the name, some of the members are not wheelchair-bound. Participants felt the name was a way to encourage more residents to join in on the performing.
