Giving to the Max: Free Meals Helps Charities

By: Maxine Ridling and Stetson Samuel
Updated: July 5, 2011
Abilene's second Jason's Deli location on Highway 351 welcomed customers on Sunday with free food.

In the past all Jason's Deli's customers have been allowed to eat for free on the first day, but this one had a twist.

The business helped several local charities while keeping its prices at zero. Charities like, the Noah Project, West Texas Rehab, and the Ben Richy Boys all received donations.

Jason's plans to give 100% of any donations collected throughout the day for special causes. Kirk Jefferies owns both Jason's locations in Abilene. Jefferies says it was a perfect opportunity to help the community.

The amount of money raised is not yet known, but to give a bit of a perspective of how successful the opening day was, Jason's served more than 500 customers in under three hours.
