Family Losing Hope as Search for Hailey Reaches 7 Months

Wednesday marks seven months since the disappearance of Colorado City 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.

For Hailey's grandmother, Connie Jones, it's a grim reminder that she may never know what happened to the young girl who investigators just can't seem to find. When asked by a KCBD reporter if Jones believed Hailey was still alive, she answered: "No ma'am. I don't."

For the past seven months, Jones says she wakes up each morning sad and terrified, according to a report on KCBD.com.

"She's all I think about - I don't think of anyone else. Thinking that I may never see her again," Jones said. "Not knowing if she's alright, if she's hurting, if she's hungry, if she's cool, if she's alive."

Investigators say they continue to track leads. However, they don't appear to be any closer to finding Hailey. Since she went missing in December, Hailey's mother Billie Dunn has moved to the Austin area. The only named suspect in the case, Billie's live-in boyfriend Shawn Adkins, has moved away as well.

Affidavits released in February revealed child pornography was also found on devices at Billie Dunn's house in Colorado City and at Adkins' mother's home in Big Spring.

Dunn is currently serving a year-long probation sentence after she pleaded no contest to a charge of making a false report to a police officer. When law enforcement came to her Colorado City home March 17 looking for her former live-in boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, she lied and said he wasn't there.

The child porn case is still under investigation. No arrests have been made, much to the frustration of the public.

"You have to show a direct link between the user and the operator of the machine. It's kind of a difficult aspect to prove," said City Manager for Colorado City, Pete Kampfer.

Over the last few weeks, volunteers searchers have decided to stop searching. The groups blame not enough volunteers taking part piled with money for the search efforts running out.
