David Bacon was attending Cooper High School when he got his first taste of broadcasting Big Country football as the "spotter" for legendary local radio announcer Len Johnson.

Bacon, a graduate of Cooper and SMU, returned to Abilene in 1981 as the Sports Director of KTAB, a position he held until April of 2005.

Following in the footsteps of Johnson, Bacon began broadcasting local games on the radio for more than two decades before switching to the webcasts now shown on bigcountryhomepage.com.

During his on-air time as the KTAB Sports Director, Bacon covered two Super Bowls, the Dallas Cowboys, numerous local high school and collegiate championship events, the former LaJet Classic on the PGA Tour at Fairway Oaks, and the 1995 MLB All-Star Game. Bacon has also worked for television stations in Midland/Odessa, San Antonio, and St. Louis.

Bacon is currently a marketing specialist for KTAB/KRBC, but you can't keep him away from Shotwell Stadium on a Friday night in the fall.

His wife, Susan, is also a Cooper grad. His two children, Michael and Kate, both attend ACU.
