"I call at Wagon Wheel, and sometimes out of town, but mostly here," said Phillips.
He's the "caller" for the Key City Squares as well as Wagon Wheel's "A-Team" of advanced dancers. Phillips got started early.
"Well, I started calling at 12, so I've been calling forever," Phillips said.
We won't tell you how long "forever" is. Phillips got a piece of advice from one of his first teachers, and the rest is dance hall history.
Phillips said, "I was told by an older caller who taught me, 'If you want to get the younger kids out here, you need to learn to call yourself,' so I did."
He also encourages people to come out. He says whether you're an old pro or want to give it a try, he can help you out.
"We start lessons in September. Tuesdays and Thursdays are our days. If you want to know more, check out our website."
That website is www.danceabilene.com. A few dozen people gather at the hall for each lesson and there is plenty room for more.
