The Kelley College of Business noticed that several students wanted to take somewhat of a religious route while exploring careers in the business realm and decided to provide that opportunity.

"A lot of times they were caught in a bind and they were thinking I want to go to a religious school. I'm interested in business, but I don't want to just sell my soul to money," says Michael Monhollon, Dean of Kelley College of Business.

With the new additions, students can now get the best of both worlds.

"They didn't necessarily want to go be a minister, but they felt called to some type of nonprofit ministry," says Monhollon.

That calling is exactly what one student got, so she decided to change her major.

"I actually started out as music business," says business student, Shelby Scott.

Now that Hardin-Simmons added these new majors, just in time for her sophomore year, she is now majoring in Nonprofit Management.

"I wanted to do a nonprofit side of music business but whenever they came up with this program I thought I might broaden my horizons and give myself more opportunities," she says.

The opportunities are endless for students like Scott.

Nonprofit organizations like the Food Bank of Abilene are excited about the introduction of the new majors.

"It's going to make a huge difference and I hope that some of them will decide to stay in Abilene," says Jody Houston, Executive Director of Food Bank of West Central Texas.

Although not exactly sure where she will end up once she graduates, Scott does know that she will be able to apply her knowledge in the profession that she's always dreamed of.

"I  plan on using all of the skills that I've learned here to develop a plan and a business that will help others. That's what I really am into and why I'm doing this program," says Scott.
