State Fair Food Finalists Released

Winners of the Best Taste and Most Creative new foods to be featured at the State Fair of Texas this year will be announced on Labor Day.

Fair officials say the tasty foods entered into the Seventh Annual Big Tex Choice Awards contest have been narrowed down to eight.

The Buffalo Chicken in a Flapjack is a buffalo chicken strip coated in flapjack batter, rolled in jalapeno bread crumbs and deep fried, served on a skewer.

The El Bananarito is a deep fried banana rolled in a flour tortilla covered with whipped cream, powdered sugar and cinnamon, topped with either hot caramel or chocolate syrup.

Other finalists include Deep Fried Texas Salsa, which is a spicy medley of jalapenos, roasted garlic, onion, tomato and pepper rolled together, dipped in masa and covered in crunchy tortilla chips, served with queso.

Fried Autumn Pie is a deep fried puff pastry with pumpkin, cream cheese, powdered sugar and fall spices, rolled in ginger, cinnamon and sugar.

The kids might enjoy Fried Bubblegum, which is a bubble gum flavored marshmallow dipped in batter, fried and decorated with a swirl of icing.

Last year's winners were Fried Beer and Texas Fried Fritos Pie.
