We're seeing examples all across Texas of what a grass fire can do when unleashed in a moderately populated rural area.

KTAB'S Victor Sotelo found that people living in the Potosi area, just south of Abilene, know the dangers of a possible wild fire.

Howard Bodenhamer is well aware of what could happen if a fire burns out of control in the subdivision he lives in.

"If you have the right kind of a fire storm like they have in Bastrop County right now, it would take those trees out and it could potentially jump over to these trees, that's the treat," said Bodenhamer.

Mike Olson, who also lives in the same subdivision called the Potosi fire department to report a small grass fire.

He said, "We are on a hill and you can see a good long ways and a lot of people assume it's already called in, but call it in anyway".

He also knows just how easy it would be for a fire to get out of control here.

Potosi fire officials say they are right to be so concerned.

Officials have said, "We have a lot of homes very close to pastures, both open pastures as well as wooded with cedar and mesquite and as dry as it has been those are very hazardous situations".

The Potosi volunteer fire department is in need of more volunteers in case a fire does break out. Right now they have about a dozen volunteers, they need between 20 and 25.
