Old Stein Mart Building Preparing for New Tenant

Big Lots is preparing to locate in the Park Central Shopping Center at Southwest Drive and the Winters Freeway.
The closeout-store chain has applied for a permit to locate in the old Stein Mart space behind the Olive Garden. Currently, Big Lots' Abilene location is on Buffalo Gap Road, in a building that originally housed a Kmart store.
Construction crews are already inside working on the store.
There's no word on when it will open.
Longtime Abilenians will remember that the new Big Lots store, along with the adjacent Dollar Tree, Hancock Fabrics, Verizon Wireless, and Subway stores were once part of the southside Walmart store. The current Walmart Supercenter was built a few blocks away in the mid 1990s.
