Big Country Mudslinger Fun Run

Abilene's Seabee Park was transformed into somewhat of a battlefield for today's Big Country Mudslinger Fun Run.

The event served as a fundraiser for the Abilene Youth Sports Authority.

People of all ages came out to complete the 3-mile obstacle course, that ended in a mud pit.

Several groups, like the Wylie Swim Team, seemed to be focused on bonding and team building.

Wylie swimmer, Cawley Sterling, says "We decided to sign up because we wanted to be closer as a team and spend more time together and get dirty."

Coworkers, Diane Areskog and Kaci Harrison, said, "It was a team building experience. It was lots of fun, glad to do it together."

Even members of our armed forces showed up to bring out the kid in them.

"We love getting muddy. That's what we do in the army. We're like kids often times. So anytime there's mud and obstacles and things to challenge us, we like to be a part of it," said Aaron McConnell.

Challenge is an appropriate word to use, as not everyone had such an easy experience today.

Steven Esparza, who challenged his girlfriend to a bit of some healthy competition, experienced some difficulty when his girlfriend could not complete the rest of the race.

He says, "If your partner gives up, don't give up on them. Pick them up and carry them if you have to. That's pretty much what i had to do for a mile or two."

Despite having to do the work of two people, Esparza says he still had a great time,"It's pretty fun, you know, it's been a good weekend, a lot of fun, and the best part is, it's for charity."

Several participants shared the same response when asked what they would change for next year.

"More mud! We like the mud," said Areskog and Harrison.

Over 700 participants completed the Big Country Mudslinger Fun Run and cannot wait to do it again next year.
