Preparing Your Home for a Wildfire

Experts say the fire in Bastrop County will likely burn more than 16-hundred homes by the time it's over.

They say conditions here are just right for the same kind of event.

We talked to some experts who said it's time to prepare your home.

It's conditions like these, out in the county, that Lexi Maxwell, a wild land interface specialist, with the Texas Forest Service, says is perfect for a wild fires.

In a lot of cases in a large grass fire they are not going to have enough resources to cover every structure.

We took a look at why they are asking people in Taylor County to prepare their property and why some places have a good chance to be saved during a wild fire

You can start with illuminating fuels around your home by cutting back grass and trees.

Fire is part of mother natures natural process and mother nature has prepared perfectly for the next step

By just leaving it alone, not doing nothing, and not substituting another alliterative for fire, then we are allowing things to become unbalanced and become unhealthy.

The Texas Forest Service estimates that 90-percent of wildfires in Texas are caused by people.

Residents should be careful when working or cooking outside.
