Post Office Consolidation Possible

By: Josh Berry
Updated: September 19, 2011
A study is being conducted which will determine if Abilene's mail processing facility will remain open.
The USPS is considering consolidation due to the decrease in pieces of mail.

If the study proves that Abilene's facility does need to be consolidated, it will join either the facility in Midland or Austin.

The post office will hold a community meeting in the next few months to discuss the possible closure.
USPS representatives say a decision will not be made until 2012.
