The West Texas Book and Music Festival got underway yesterday in downtown Abilene and the fun continues all this week with performances by Texas country artists and authors alike.

Dr. Robert Sledge gave us an inside look into his new book, A People, A Place: The Story of Abilene, Vol. 2. The book details the growth of the key city into the modern city we know now.

The book mentions the impact world war two had in shaping our city. "Before 1940, Abilene was a sleepy village town and the coming of Camp Barkley changed it forever." says Sledge
