Volunteers never expected a response like this.

"I just had the idea in my head, passed it around and then took off running with it," said Dymorie Burns.

Burns says she just wanted to put together a simple garage sale to help the Westbrook family pay their son's medical bills. Three-month-old Austin Westbrook suffered head injuries after being shaken by his babysitter, who was arrested for the crime.

In the days following, Burns says the community's response has been overwhelming.

"Very surprised. We never expected it to get this big," Burns said, "We were just going to have it in our front yard and ask our neighbors if we could use their front yard too."

Since they made the announcement about the sale Saturday, their phones have been ringing with people asking how they can donate goods, or volunteer to help with the sale.

"It's a fulfilling thing to help someone. We can maybe help ease some of the worries they are going through," Burns said.

Dymorie says it's amazing to see how many people want to help this family.

"I think everyone has wanted to help them, but doesn't really know what to do," Burns said.
