Residents Are Concerned After Peeping Tom Alert

Residents are extremely alarmed at the suspicious behavior that has recently occurred in south Abilene restaurant bathrooms.

Frances Schroth says, "Well when I first heard it, I thought to myself, how in the world is a peeping tom in the girls bathroom?"

There have been two reported incidents involving a male peeking over some dimly lit bathroom stalls in restaurants, leaving residents a bit concerned.

Schroth says, "I'm just shocked. I really am shocked."

Many cannot understand what would possess someone to do something like this.

"It's disturbing to know that there are people out there that are that desperate to look at someone nude that they have to go peep in a ladies restroom," says Haylee Barton.

J.C Halloway says, "It's stupid, why would someone want to do something like that?"

Residents say after last night's warning, they will now take even more precaution when out and about.

"My husband is always telling me I'm not cautious enough with my surroundings," Schroth explains, "He's always telling me, be observant, and I'm like okay, from now on, I definitely am."

Some have even come up with plan of attack if they happen to come across this peeping tom.

Schroth says, "You'll be hearing me yell, screaming if I was to ever see something like that."

"If it was one of my kids, it'd probably be a beat-down," says Halloway.

Schroth says she will no longer take going to a public restroom for granted, instead she'll be prepared with extra security.

"I would have my husband wait outside the bathroom," she says.

Abilene residents are hoping that the suspect is caught soon and pays for his dirty deeds.

Barton says, "I hope he is deeply and truly embarrassed and ashamed of himself, because that's sick on so many levels."

Police are now looking for a Hispanic male, between 5' 2" and 5' 4", in his late 30s or 40s.

If you have any information regarding these incidents you are encouraged to contact the Abilene Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 676-TIPS.
