It's a step the the 82nd Regular Legislative Session felt will allow legitimate producers to continue to take advantage of the exemption.
"If they're not getting abused it's a better opportunity that we'll be able to maintain those," explained Taylor County Extension Agent, Robert Pritz.
House Bill 268 will weed out those illegitimate claims from those that will actually use the product for the accepted activity.
"I look at this as a safeguard to make sure that the proper people are getting the exemptions that they're eligible for."
The activities that do not qualify and are not eligible for a registration number range from home gardening, wildlife management and conservation to pet breeding and kennels.
Those that do qualify, are the ones raising agricultural products to timber producers.
"And it makes it a little easier on the retailers to identify those people that are eligible, since they will have a registration number with the comptrollers office," Pritz said.
It's a simple step that should take no longer than ten minutes, but it has to be done before January 1.
The ten minute process can be completed online or through the mail, find the link with more information below.
