Engines roared Saturday morning, but it wasn't a traditional race.

"We decided to get together with the TATPA and have a tractor pull. We're raising money for the cemetery. They're donation-only and donations haven't really been coming in," explains Toni Robertson with the Merkel Chamber of commerce.

The Chamber of Commerce sponsored an old fashioned tractor pull, but it's not just the entertainment that was old fashioned. Every single tractor at the event was an antique.

The event was a fundraiser but  Roger Moore hopes it's just one of many things that will bring people to Merkel. He says he likes to stay involved in his home town.

"I'm a Merkel advocate, so anything that's going on, I like to be involved," said Moore.

Toni Robertson says the event was fun and raised money for a good cause, but she hopes to give residents a reason to get out.

"We just want to get Merkel out and doing stuff!" Robertson said.

And as the crowds came in, the antique machines peeled out, all to raise money for a piece of local history in need of support.
