Chad Dewar says he's trained to help people in situations just like this.

"I'm a first responder. I'm here to help someone whenever I can," Dewar said.

Chad is a firefighter at Dyess Air Force Base. He also works as an apprentice at a tattoo shop across the street from the Little Elm Condos, where a man was shot Tuesday afternoon. When he heard the gunfire, he knew he had to help.

"Somebody said that a kid got shot. So we grabbed a few sets of gloves and ran over there," Dewar said.

Chad says when he got over to where the shooting victim was, he knew exactly what to do. He and another firefighter quickly pulled the victim out of the car he was in and started to work on him.

"We checked airway, breathing, circulation and assessed the wounds and applied press the best we could until the paramedics arrived," Dewar said.

The victim was identified as 22-year-old Kerion Harness. He was transported to an Abilene hospital around 5 p.m. Tuesday, where he was pronounced dead. Harness had suffered several gun shot wounds to the chest. Police say they are working to piece together the information they've collected to find out what lead to the shooting. They've identified 26-year-old Alfred Williams as a suspect in this case.

"We've got a lot of different information for a lot of people, and trying to get actionable information from all the stories we are getting is what they are trying to do right now," said APD Det. John Clark.
