The Abilene Association of Congregations will be participating in the annual CROP Hunger Walk.

"It is an event which is a community response to poverty," explains David Hargrave, the pastor of Brookhollow Christian Church.

The main goal of this is to raise funds for individuals who are hungry.

"It's a three kilometer walk and they raise funds through that walk through pledges for their miles or kilometers walked," says Hargrave.

The CROP project is able to feed people all over the world, but the rewarding thing about it is that we also reap the benefits right here in Abilene.

"It just helps the relief agencies in town," says Hargrave.

A percentage of what is raised at Sunday's walk will return to our area.

"25 percent of the funds raised here at the Abilene CROP walk will come back to the Abilene and Big Country community."

Pastor Hargrave says the important word to remember is community, which is what this event is all about.

"It is people getting together from all denominations, all Christian denominations and saying we want to respond to poverty in this way," says Hargrave.

The event will start at Brook Hollow Christian Church at 2pm on Sunday.
