Attorney John Young released a statement Tuesday afternoon concerning his indictment.
"My wife and children and I are saddened and disappointed by the indictment", Young said, "we will fight these accusations in a court of law with all the energy we have in us. We hope that folks will withhold judgment and not jump to conclusions until all the facts are known. I will continue to work hard, fighting for the rights of my clients and their families as I have for the past 23 years."
Young is being represented by Daniel W. Hurley of the Hurley & Guinn Law Firm in Lubbock, Texas.
"Of course we are disappointed by the grand jury's decision in this matter," said Hurley in a statement. "But, it is important to remember an indictment is merely an accusation based on one side of the story."
Young remains free on bond. No trial date has been set.
Sweetwater attorney John Young was indicted for felony aggravated assault by Nolan County grand jurors.
Young was arrested in June on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the Sweetwater Police Department, Young allegedly pointed a gun at a police officer.
The officer was able to get the gun away from Young after a struggle.
Young has served as a defense attorney on numerous high-profile cases.
At one point, he was the attorney for Billie Dunn, mother of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn.
