Are you scratching your head when it comes to cooking your thanksgiving turkey? Rhonda Young gives us a crash course for defrosting your bird

If you have a habit of waiting until the last minute to thaw out your Thanksgiving turkey, you might want to listen up.  For a 16lb bird, the average thaw time is from 3 to 4 days just sitting in the refrigerator! But luckily, there are other options.

The first method is called the "Turkey Bath" method, which takes over eight hours and a lot of effort on your part.

"It is not a leisurely experience," explains Rhonda.

For starters, the water in the Turkey bath has to be changed every twenty minutes.

"It takes a village. You're going to have to bring in a team of people to help you," says Rhonda, "you got to have dedication, you've got to be on top of it, and you've got to be changing the water."

If that doesn't sound like the method for you, there is a second choice, the oh-so-familiar microwave.  But most people will encounter a big problem with this method, especially if you're cooking for a big family.

"your microwave is probably not big enough to accommodate a bird," Rhonda Says, "my microwave doesn't believe turkey's should come larger than 6lbs."

Finally, one of the best, and easiest solutions for thawing your turkey in time for Thursday's Thanksgiving feast is buying a ready to go bird from your local grocery store.

"You buy fresh turkey," Rhonda explains, "this bad boy is ready to go straight to the brine, straight to the roasting pan.  He will indeed be a beautiful brown bird on Thanksgiving Day."
